This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use Countist.

What Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

Email address (for account creation and communication)
Name (optional, for personalization)
Subscription data you manually enter (service names, costs, billing dates, categories)
Payment information (processed and stored by Stripe, not by us)

Information collected automatically:

Session cookies (to keep you logged in)
Basic usage data (which features you use, to improve the product)

We do not collect or access your bank account information, transaction history, or any financial data beyond what you manually enter.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide and maintain the Countist service
Process your subscription payments through Stripe
Send you important account notifications (billing reminders, service updates)
Analyze AI overlaps and duplicates in your subscriptions
Improve our product based on how features are used
Respond to your support requests

We will never use your data for advertising or sell your information to third parties.

Third-Party Services We Use

We work with the following trusted service providers who may access certain data to help us operate Countist:

Stripe: Payment processing (handles credit card information securely)
Clerk: Authentication services (manages secure login)
OpenAI: Powers AI features that detect subscription overlaps
Neon: Database hosting (stores your subscription data securely)

Each of these providers has their own privacy policies and security measures. We only share the minimum data necessary for them to provide their services.

We use session cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We do not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies that follow you across the internet.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Neon's infrastructure with industry-standard encryption. We implement appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, or deletion of your information.

However, no internet transmission is completely secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your subscription data remains in our system as long as you maintain an active account (free trial or paid).

When you delete your account:

Your data is immediately and permanently deleted from our database
We do not maintain backups or grace periods for deleted accounts
Certain billing records may be retained as required by law for tax and accounting purposes (typically transaction records and invoices)

You can export all your subscription data as a CSV file at any time before deletion.

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Correct inaccurate information
Request deletion of your account and data
Export your subscription data at any time
Opt out of non-essential communications

Children's Privacy

Countist is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

The "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when it was most recently revised.
